I know, I know. You’re having slightly traumatized flashbacks right now at the mention of «blue mascara». Please calm down immediately, because it’s definitely NOT your worst 1980s nightmare relived. It’s actually quite fabulous, and that has a lot to do with the fact that Yves Saint Laurent simply doesn’t DO tacky!
And Cara Delevigne wouldn’t have anything to to with it either. Especially since this colored mascara comeback is waaaay more that cobalt blue!
Behold the visual to YSL’s new «Mascara Vinyl Couture»!
Since we trust Cara on most things (maybe excepting her lion’s head finger tat), let’s just jump straight into one of this summer’s most daring make-up launches!
YSL Mascara Vinyl Couture (in 9 shades), US$29.00
Yves Saint Laurent is gearing this brand new, high-gloss mascara towards the fashion-forward women who is simply bored of basic black.
Which both includes ALL OF US and makes us feel really un-hip. Especially when we see all the shades they’re launching!
This isn’t just new, brightly colored mascara – YSL actually developed a brand-new breakthrough formula for it! Four years and more than 400 tests led to their new, patented «liquid vinyl» formula, which allows not only for a ultra-pigmented mascara that doesn’t fade with wear, but also for a high-gloss finish that wraps itself around each and every lash in seconds.
The result: Ultra-glossy, buildable volume!
In addition, four luxurious botanical oils help the lashes grow stronger and more supple… and (added bonus), the mascara smells absolutely gorgeous: Mandarine orange, blackcurrant, basil, jasmine and violets!
Here are all nine colors, from black to fuchsia and with two glittery metallic top coats:
And because you’re asking «how the heck to I wear them», here’s your answer – YSL has a whole bunch of tutorials on them ready on YouTube!
My favourite look isn’t very understated, though…
Stop freaking out, please. You can also just go for the magically blue Mascara No. 5 «I Am the Trouble»…
The trick? Using the brightly colored mascaras either only on the bottom lashes, or only to accentuate the top lashes, on top of a black mascara.
The effect is pretty subtle… but when you come close, it’s like a quiet POW! I took these pictures in direct sunlight, so you can see what I mean:
All in all I really like this launch: It’s fun, it’s brave and it’s a long way away from boring beach-nude shades (sorry, Bobbi!). Play with them!
YSL’s Mascara Vinyl Couture Mascara is available in 9 shades for US$ 28.00 each
