I’ll admit it: Having been in the beauty industry for nearly ten years and being lucky enough to receive the newest beauty and skincare products from nearly all the big brands, I’ve become a bit immune to the concept of «hyped up» products, as it’s nearly always just cleverly marketed advertising that makes a must-have item.

Which is why, on occasion, I’ll come across a new product so innovative, or so highly photogenic, that I just HAVE to have it. Come what may and how many credit cards of mine have to be declined because of shipping to foreign countries and whatevs.

And these gorgeous lip sticks are definitely one of those things: I didn’t even care if they lived up to their hype or not. I just WANTED ‘EM! And despite the fact that the Winky Lux Flower Lip Balms were endlessly, annoyingly out of stock… I finally nabbed ’em!

You see what I mean?

YES, you do.

These beautiful lip balms are so innovative, and so breathtakingly pretty that I’m not surprised they’ve taken the beauty world by storm. And turned Winky Lux – a brand that’s basically a start-up founded only a year ago by former beauty editor Natalie Mackey, a 32-year old entrepreneur whose goal from the start was to create unique, hip, cruelty-free and affordable make-up that is only sold online, not in stores.

Her inspiration was clearly a similar product by japanese brand Kailijumei, but Natalie was able to create her own version which was quite a bit cheaper. And by cleverly working with carefully selected influencers, instead of spending money on ad campaigns, the Flower Balms have become one of the most coveted make-up releases of 2016.

These see-through lip balms react to your lip’s individual PH-leel, and create a unique, just-for-you pinkish glow. But the prettiest part is the tiny (real!) flower inside the balm itself: A baby chrysanthemum!

Yeah, I know. We all remember «mood rings» and the likes… but surprisingly, the Flower Balms create a pretty, very sheer but surprisingly pink lip color on me – and on the two girlfriends who tested them for me, too!

Since I live in Switzerland and shipping and handling can be quite expensive when ordering products from overseas, I was thrilled to have nabbed one of the Winky Lux ASOS sets (currently still sold out, sorry)… and paying nearly $20.00 on top of the nearly $40.00 for the set may be a bit crazy, but I’m glad that I believed the hype, in this case.

Like I said: I get sent products and press info every day, and this is truly unique enough for me to go: WHOA.

Add the lovely coconut scent and the fact that they’re ultra-nourishing and hydrating on your lips, and I’m a convert. And can even handle the fact that Winky Lux’ other bestselling product is a palette to create rainbow-colored eyebrows.

I wish make-up was always this fun! Well done, Winky Lux. I’m very interested to see where this brand is headed!

The Winky Lux Flower Balm Jelly Lip Stain should be restocked shortly at Winky Lux directly. This set of three (with a gold beauty case) was available for a short time at ASOS.

Do these gorgeous lipsticks live up to the hype?
