Whoa. It’s been AGES since I posted here, and I’m so sorry for the break! I always hate when bloggers I enjoy reading suddenly go into hibernation, but here we are. I’ve been super-busy with my main blog (the German edition of what you’re reading here), have a new job as a copywriter and generally have just been LIFEING.
But today’s post is a fab way to get back into the swing of things, because it’s not only super-timely, but pretty darned gorgeous to look at!
We’ve known for a while now that Gucci was planning a makeup line. And now, on May 3rd, Creative Director Alessandro Michele presented the first fruits of his labor in New York City.
In collaboration with Gucci’s Global Make-Up Artist Thomas de Kluyver, Alessandro just launched a Gucci lipstick collection with 58 shades. This new, first collection is available immediately (and exclusively) at Gucci.com, and will be launched more widely later this month.
The official visuals that have just been released for the launch are… well, shall we say, pretty edgy. The look is a wild mashup of home videos from your grandma’s house, some sketchy amateur porn sets and a bit of «backstage at a punk rock show» vibes thrown in.
In all honesty, I’m more of a make-up expert than an art director or fashion editor, so I’ll just toss up the visuals I received from Coty (who owns Gucci Beauty).
I’m pretty gobsmacked and absolutely love the look, but I’ll let you decide for yourself. Immerse yourself in the new Gucci Lipstick collection 2019!
Pretty rad imagery, am I right? It’s too early to find any good reviews of the lipsticks themselves, but they look impressive, in a very retro way.
And the «behind the scenes» footage of the campaign (shot by photographer Martin Parr) shows us that there’ll be a lot more edgy, post-millennial-pre-Generation Z-gorgeousness to come from Gucci Beauty!
The visuals feature Dani Miller, lead singer of the punk rock band Surfbort (she’s the one with the teeth) and models Mae Lapres, Achok Majak and Ellia Sophia Coggins. All have their own unique look and are pretty much redifining what «beauty» can mean.
So, what are your thoughts on this very modern approach by Gucci for their new make-up collection?
The «ugly-beautiful« aesthetic is certainly on-trend, and I’ll be super-interested to see how the target audience (which is obviously twenty years younger than me at 45!) will react. And whether they’re willing to spend 50 $ for a tiny chunk of glamour.
And still, I want a piece of Gucci’s make-up for myself! I’m not crazed enough to order any right now, as the launch of the lipstick collection here in Switzerland is planned for September 2019… but for now, I’m impressed with what I see.
What are your thoughts?
The Gucci Makeup Lipstick Collection was launched exclusively on gucci.com on May 4th, 2019, worldwide rollout planned for late May 2019.
