Isn’t it nice to start your week on a tuesday? Hope you had a relaxing whitsuntide – I went to see the Rhine Falls, which were especially impressive after the heavy rain.
To start our week right, let’s have a look at Guerlain’s appropriately named fragrance Mon Guerlain!
The newest fragrance by much loved brand Guerlain already launched in March, but somehow landed on the bottom of my shelf – oh boy, did I miss out! I’m so happy that I found the bottle again and can’t believe how I almost missed this one.
Let’s have a closer look!
Thierry Wasser, Guerlain’s incredibly charming Master Perfumeur, was inspired to use quite unusual ingredients for his newest creation. The sourcing of the aromatic substances has always been a traditional matter at Guerlain: In the late 19th century, Aimé Guerlain himself travelled all the way to Russia to look for birch essence and leather.
Thierry Wasser was in Zurich to talk about his newest fragrance and he really was super passionate about it – and about the woman who inspired him. This man lives for the art of perfumery and is not only charming, but also very funny and VERY french!
Here is an interview with Mr Wasser – isn’t it fascinating how he talks about creating the fragrance? I especially like the part where he talks about the inspiration behind Mon Guerlain and it being a scent for a sincere, authentic and feminine woman.
Guerlain is proud to know every last detail about the raw materials, such as jasmine, sandalwood, lavender or vanilla. This makes Mon Guerlain a concentration of real human relationships across the globe.
It’s only suitable for this new fragrance to have Angelina Jolie as the face: it’s the first time the actress, filmmaker and UN ambassador does advertising for a cosmetics company. And she wouldn’t be Angelina Jolie if she didn’t donate the entire salary from Mon Guerlain to charity.
If you scroll down further, you can admire her even more in Terrence Malick’s beautiful publicity film…
Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum (50ml), around US$ 94.
Monsieur Wasser chose Tahitensis Vanilla (which is also key ingredient of Guerlain’s classic fragrance Shalimar) as the starting point for the composition work of Mon Guerlain.
Quite bravely, Carla Lavender, which is often used for masculine scents, is paired with the sensual and mysterious vanilla. This shakes up the feminine component and gives freshness and audacity.
The link that connects delicious vanilla to lavender is Sambac Jasmine. It is the esthete that gives this composition all of its finesse.
Santalum Album Sandalwood expresses the inner riches and resources possessed by all women. It is the wood that gives strength and preserves the mystery of eternal femininity.
These lovely ingredients make for an intriguing composition, which is very feminine and very «there», but never overpowering. It’s simply gorgeous!
Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum is available in 30 ml (around US$ 66), 50 ml (around US$ 94) and 100 ml (around US$ 150). There’s also a Body Lotion (200 ml, around US$ 60) and a Shower Gel (around US$ 55), which are not only delicious but also very pretty to look at.
Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum is available from US$ 66 (30ml) at your trusted Guerlain counter.
